Kilmovee is a small rural village that set up a committee in 1993 to build social houses for older residents.
A small development of 8 homes were build 6 for older persons and 2 for families. These homes have been at full occupancy since they were built and are highly sought after by outside agencies such as HSE, Western Care and Mayo County Council due to the location and extra services that are provided to the residents.
To Provide Independent Living for older people in the community with their own front door but with the addition of extra supports.
Our Aim is to build 10 2 Bedroom Houses around a communal garden and a four bed group home for persons convalescing after a hospital stay.
Its ideal location adjacent to Kilmovee Community Centre and Family Resource Centre provide ideal access to facilities and services provided in the village such as
- Day Care
- Classes
- Active Age Group
- Laundry & Recycling
- Bingo
- Traditional Music Nights
- Heritage Events
- Additional support services.
The Development located in the centre of the village will also include a surfaced loop walk with outdoor exercise equipment. A family playground will also be located on the site.
This together with various classes in the centre such as Activator Walking, Yoga, Tai Chi, and Active Age Exercises ensure our residents have access to a healthier lifestyle.
There is a R.C. Church less than 100 meters away as well as a community garden and a tree lined fairy walk. Local Link provides bus service to the local town which is 10km away.
The centre also has bill pay services, a post box, electric car charging and family support services such as food provision, advocacy and a drop in centre.
